Professor Capretz (or anyone who can answer):

I would surely appreciate a transcription of the first few lines Mireille speaks at the beginning of each lesson where she introduces her parents. My wife and I have just renewed our interest in the program after a lapse of may years. At 84, my hearing and comprehension leaves something to be desired. We have the transcriptions of Lesson 2 and beyond. Many thanks.

I cannot express enough my gratitude to Mr. Carpretz, the cast of French in Action, and Annenberg Learning for such a gift of a series that has completely revolutionized and catapulted my French. I am VERY serious when I say this. I am learning so rapidly and increasing fluency like never before. I am using the Rosetta Stone program as well, and my wife and I will be spending month in Bordeaux with her friends (my wife has native like proficiency).

I hold a masters degree in applied linguistics and I teach ESL here in the United States in New York. I am also a published editorial illustrator with works in the New York TImes, the Chicago Tribune, and the Sacramento Bee. (See http://altpick.com/rrendo)

To Pierre, Valerie, Charles, and Virginie: I love you guys . . . I hope you truly realize how your artistry has opened up a whole new world to me. I now speak far more French and can therefore dialogue witht the French about politics, my favorite topic. We Americans would stand to learn so much from the French mindset.

What I have learned most from your empowering series is this: to speak French is not only a way of speaking. . . . . it is a way of being.

Fondly and Linguistically,
Robert Rendo

Re Marie Laure in FIA. The one thing that bothered me about Mireille was how she treated Marie Laure. I thought that the FIA writers did Mireille a disservice in this regard. I thought Mireille's harsh impatience was superfluous and unnecessary.

I see some comments asking about Marie Laure (Virginie Contesse). In the skit between Charles Mayer and Valérie Allain, Mireille said that Marie Laure had been studying law and now was a "detective privée," or was this just made up for the skit? Or perhaps I misunderstood the dialogue.

At the reunion, Valérie said she stayed in touch with Virginie's family in Menton, France for a couple of years after filming, but fell out of contact after that. See Charles Mayers' comment below of 24 Nov 2010. There were some rumors posted here about Virginie working at a store in New York City, but I rather doubt their veracity.
