Georges: Regrettably, the actress who played Tante Georgette, Colette Ripert, passed away in 1990 (when only 60 years of age). Ripert was a well known star of French cinema and theatre with lots of film credits in the 1940s and '50s as you can see on her IMDB page. Do a Google image search under her name and prepare to be wowed at what you see. I am sure that at the reunion she will be remembered and I would like to hear how she ended up being cast for FIA and how her character was developed.

Our favorite school for learning French in France is l'Instut de Français in Villefrance sur Mer.
http://www.institutdefrancais.com/
They have 8 levels - 2 beginner, 4 intermediate, and 2 advanced. The first day you are there, you take an extensive test to determine the best level for you. You'll end up in a class with 8 or 9 others at the same level. It's total immersion - they even threaten to fine you "un Euro par mot" for every non-French word you speak on the campus. They provide breakfast and a hot lunch, so you're immersed in French for 8-9 hours each day. It's not inexpensive, but it's the best way to learn or improve your French quickly.

I could be wrong on this, but I thought the "feminist" issue was not about the show per se, but about a classroom exercise in which students would play the part of "drageurs" and try to come up with pickup lines in French. Apparently the exercise got out of hand, and that's what started the complaints.

» … Parce qu’il est Français !"

Wright,

I have been to this school two times. Although they don't use French In Action, the teaching staff is wonderful and you will be fully immersed in French the entire time you are there. They are located in the Rhone-Alps region of France. If you would prefer to stay in Paris or some other region, you will find plenty of schools just by doing a google search. Good luck and happy travels!

So yes, a reunion/celebration is in the works for some weekend in fall 2010.

Rumor has it: it will be at Yale; for some weekend in the fall so teachers can come; it will feature a cast reunion of some sort and, of course, LE PROFESSEUR!!!

I shall post more info as I hear it.

Je ne parle pas très bien la française. Donc, je vais écrire en l'anglais.

My wife and I plan to go to France this summer with our 12 year old grandson to take courses in French for two or three weeks. We would like to find a school in France in which we can ALL take a course and which uses French in Action.

Do you know of any?

(Vous pouvez réprondre en française, si vous preferez.)

On Facebook, there is a group Atelier Charles Mayer.
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=8225089607
He occasionally posts there, and he is in France in March 2010. His posts are very thoughtful, some quoting other actors on acting.

There is also one for Valerie Alain, but for reasons unclear, she only has six fans. Only six! You should join!
